History
Fabbrica Botti Gamba is a family owned and operated 215-year old Italian Cooperage. It is located in the Piedmonte province of Northern Italy. Eugenio Gamba and his son Mauro comprise the 6th and 7th generations of this cooperage. Gamba manufactures premium Upright Wooden Tanks & Fermenter's, Casks, Puncheons and Barrels.
3-Year Maturated Oak
Gamba sources tight-grain forest specific American, French and Eastern European Oak. The raw stave wood is aged in Asti, Italy, where the seasonable climatic effects cause the harsh tannins to be removed naturally during the minimum 36-month seasoning process. No Kiln is utilized to substitute for or artificially expedite the chemical and physical changes that better occur naturally during maturation.
Craftsmanship
The Barrels are heated over open fire and bent by combining present day technology with Old World craftsmanship. All barrels are constructed with a minimum of 8 hoops and available in common industry sizes. Prior to shipment, barrels are card board protected, poly bagged and heat shrink wrapped to prevent the possibility of damage or contamination during transit.
Slow Toast (Toast Check™)
During the individual toasting of the barrels, Gamba utilizes an infrared monitoring system to regulate the toast temperature. The slow toast has been proven to be more homogeneous, promote deeper penetration into the stave and provide greater consistence barrel to barrel. This process eliminates blistering resulting in a sweeter toast that softens the aromatic compounds.
Brett, TBA & TCA Free
As part of Gamba’s commitment to Total Quality Control, the cooperage has completed certification for Brettanomyces, Tribromoanoisole (TBA) and Trichloroanisole (TCA) free barrels. The independent auditor who conducted the test will continue ongoing random sampling of raw stave wood to comply with certification and insure the highest quality possible.
